Monday Night Football‘s Cowboys-Giants Game Delivers 14.1 Million Viewers

Expected to be ESPN’s Most-Viewed MNF Game This Season Once Final Streaming Numbers are Reported

  • ESPN’s Most-Viewed Monday Night Countdown Pregame Show in Nearly Two Years

Last night’s Monday Night Football game – a Dallas Cowboys’ 37-18 victory over the New York Giants – averaged 14,144,000 viewers across ESPN and ESPN Deportes, according to Nielsen. This is an increase of 16 percent vs. ESPN’s Week 9 game last year (Titans-Cowboys).

The MNF game helped ESPN win the night among all networks, broadcast or cable, in households, viewers and all key male and adult demos (18-34, 18-49, 25-54 and 55+). MNF was also the highest-rated telecast of the night across all broadcast and cable networks among the same demos. ESPN has now won the night all nine Mondays since the start of the NFL season, while MNF has been the No. 1 telecast those same weeks.

On ESPN, Cowboys-Giants averaged 13,979,000 viewers, behind only Lions-Packers on Oct. 14 (14,001,000 viewers). Audiences peaked from 9:15-9:30 p.m. ET with 15,670,000 viewers. Once final streaming numbers are reported later this week, Cowboys-Giants is expected to be ESPN’s most-viewed MNF telecast so far this season.

ESPN Deportes added 165,000 viewers – the second most-viewed MNF game on record on ESPN’s Spanish-language sports network, behind only the 2013 Cowboys-Bears game (174,000). Last night’s telecast is up 45 percent vs. Week 9 last year.

Local markets:

  • Dallas-Ft. Worth: The game delivered an 11.0 rating on ESPN and a 21.1 rating on WFAA-ABC for a combined 32.1 rating.
  • New York: The game delivered an 8.5 rating on ESPN and a 4.9 on WPIX-CW for a combined 13.4 rating.

The top 10 markets: San Antonio (15.9), Austin (15.0), Norfolk (12.2), San Diego (12.0), Las Vegas (11.4), Philadelphia (11.2), Hartford & New Haven (10.9), Columbus, OH   and Washington, DC (10.6) Seattle-Tacoma (10.5).

Monday Night Countdown: Last night’s MNF pregame show on ESPN averaged 1.7 million viewers – the most-viewed Monday Night Countdown in nearly two years and up 22 percent vs. Week 9 in 2018.

Through 10 games, MNF’s average audience of 11,988,000 viewers is up five percent season-to-date (vs. 11,442,000 in 2018).

Next Week: Jimmy Garoppolo and the undefeated San Francisco 49ers host Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks in a key matchup of NFC West division rivals on ESPN’s Monday Night Football (Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. ET).
