College Baseball: Thursday Night SEC Schedule

College football is three-quarters complete and basketball tips off Friday but planning for the college baseball season is already underway. ESPNU’s third annual Thursday Night SEC Baseball Game of the Week is the first set of games to be scheduled. The weekly series will begin March 28 and continue every Thursday through May 16.

The series will begin with Texas A&M, playing its first season in the SEC, at South Carolina. South Carolina, winners of two of the past three College World Series’, defeated Texas A&M in the 2011 College World Series which was the only previous matchup between the teams.


  • Multiple appearances by South Carolina, winners of the 2010 and 2011 College World Series and a participant in last year’s best-of-three Championship Series.
  • Games involving all three participating teams in last year’s NCAA Division I Baseball Championship: South Carolina, Arkansas and Florida.
  • Telecasts of six teams that were ranked in the final ESPN/USA Today coaches’ poll: No. 2 South Carolina, No. 3 Arkansas, No. 6 Florida, No. 11 LSU, No. 18 Texas A&M and No. 19 Kentucky.

Overall, ESPN will provide coverage of more than 150 regular-season and championship games across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3, concluding with extensive action of the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship and the entire College World Series. Additional games are to be announced.

Connecticut & Michigan State to Meet in Sears Armed Forces Classic at Ramstein Air Base in Germany

Connecticut and No. 14 Michigan State will take part in the first regular-season men’s college basketball game held overseas – in the Sears Armed Forces Classic at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, on Friday, Nov. 9. The inaugural location – in a C-5 transport airplane hangar on the base – will be televised on ESPN with coverage starting at 5:30 p.m. ET. The game is the centerpiece of ESPN’s fourth annual America’s Heroes: A Salute to Our Veterans, a five-day initiative that honors veterans and troops in programming across the network’s U.S. media platforms from Wednesday, Nov. 7 through Sunday, Nov. 11.

Live studio coverage from Germany begins on ESPNU at 5 p.m. and continues with a full pregame show at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN. The game will tipoff on ESPN at 6 p.m. Full Release

Women’s College Basketball Season Tips Off on ESPN3

The 2012-13 season opens on ESPN3 with four games over the weekend, beginning with Vermont at Marist on Friday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m.  N.C. State is hosting the Wolfpack Invitational and will face either Maine or Auburn on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tennessee visits Georgia Tech’s for the opening of the Yellow Jackets’ new arena Sunday at 2 p.m., followed by Middle Tennessee hosting a WNIT second round game at 3 p.m. ESPN’s Full Women’s College Basketball Schedule

ESPN’s College GameDay to Originate from USS San Diego on November 10

College GameDay Built by The Home Depot will originate from the flight deck of the USS SAN DIEGO (LPD 22), currently homeported at Naval Base San Diego, on Saturday, Nov. 10, as part of ESPN’s fourth annual America’s Heroes: A Salute to Our Veterans. The five-day initiative, from Wednesday, Nov. 7 through Sunday, Nov. 11, will honor veterans and troops in programming across ESPN’s U.S. media platforms.

College GameDay will air live at 9 a.m. ET on ESPNU and from 10 a.m.-noon on ESPN with host Chris Fowler, analysts Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and David Pollack, and hosts/reporters Samantha Steele and Tom Rinaldi.

Servicemen and women, along with their families, from the Naval Base San Diego and nearby Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton will make up GameDay’s live audience. Included in the early-morning telecast will be a feature by Rinaldi, who speaks with Clemson walk-on wide receiver Daniel Rodriguez, a decorated Afghanistan war veteran.

This week’s features include Clemson walk-on receiver Daniel Rodriguez won a bronze star and purple heart while fighting in Afghanistan; the growing legend of Texas A&M’s quarterback Johnny Manziel; a 31 year-old long snapper Nate Boyer of Texas, who has taken a long road to Austin, including a stint in the military – where he earned a bronze star; and Louisiana-Lafayette’s weight coach Rusty Whitt served in the US Army, and brought his “Special Forces” conditioning to the football program.

College Basketball Signing Day on ESPNU November 16

Four of the ESPN 100 high school basketball players in the country made their verbal college commitment live on ESPN Recruiting Nation this year. ESPN recruiting analyst Paul Biancardi and Dave Telep will recap and provide analysis as the final players fax in their commitment letters Friday, Nov. 16 during the ESPNU Signing Day Special. Follow next week for more details on the network’s coverage plans.

ESPNU Inside Top 20 Program, All-Access: LA Tech

ESPNU debuted its first All-Access featuring a day in the life of conference officials on Tuesday. ESPNU All-Access: SEC Officials followed referees as they prepared for the South Carolina vs. Tennessee matchup and had them wired during the game. The show will re-air tonight at 5 p.m. and on Sunday, Nov. 11. The series will air an inside look at a top 25 college football program, No. 20 LA Tech on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs are currently undefeated in the Western Athletic Conference and hold an 8-1 record going into Week 11.


No. 104 Greg Gilmore to Announce Commitment In-Studio Thursday

Greg Gilmore, No. 104 on the ESPN 150, will make his verbal college commitment on ESPN Recruiting Nation live from ESPNU’s Charlotte, N.C. studios on Thursday at 5 p.m. on ESPNU. Gilmore is a defensive tackle for South View High School in Hope Mills, N.C., and will be deciding between Florida, LSU and Oklahoma.
